Limited and numbered edition of 50 pieces. A leading figure in contemporary animal sculpture, Michel Bassompierre has brought a distinctive style to the discipline. True to his artistic approach, the sculptor draws each work from a long observation of the animal’s morphology and behavior. Through countless sketches and clay studies, a form both powerful and delicate gradually emerges beneath Michel Bassompierre’s hands. The sculptor’s gesture is then carried forward in the workshops of the Baccarat Manufacture, where the piece takes shape in crystal through the Maison’s highest levels of expertise. With their mastery of volume, Baccarat artisans faithfully translate the balance and tensions that animate the sculpture. Crafted from a unique mold using the demanding lost-wax casting technique, each piece is sculpted from a single block of crystal. The work is then hand-cut and partially sandblasted to evoke the texture of fur, creating subtle contrasts between matte and polished surfaces.
